Jackie L. Kurtis was born in Phoenix, Arizona. She received her B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Arizona. After graduation she worked as a research technician in the lab of Dr. Linda Restifo at Arizona Research Laboratories Division of Neurobiology at the University of Arizona. Her research involved fruit flies as a model system for studying genetic pathways that control changes in the size and shape of neurons in tissue culture and the development of a computer program designed to automate and expedite that research for eventual drug screenings.
Her interest in the intersection between law and science led her to law school at Arizona State University’s College of Law, now the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. There she graduated cum laude and earned a certificate in Law, Science and Technology with an emphasis on Intellectual Property. She served as a senior editor on Jurimetrics: The Journal of Law, Science, and Technology. She is admitted to practice in the state of Arizona.
